PenumbraFrom Re.ViCaThe penumbra of a name is defined to be the "cloud" of variant versions of the name, each of which is #REDIRECTed back to the name. The variant versions will include versions in other languages, variant orders of words and common mis-spellings. It will also include flattenings of the term. Thus for example the penumbra of Université Nancy 2 includes the English version University of Nancy 2 and the flattened French version Universite Nancy 2 (without the acute accent). The purpose of the penumbra is to improve the likelihood of a search reaching the desired term, especially for non-native speakers of the language in question. It is a matter of editorial judgement and feasibility how large the penumbra is around each name. See also flatten. > Glossary
